Ms. Iris Wechling, Principal

Principal’s Corner
May, 2008

What a wonderful year this has been!  While I know there is a lot of learning to come and good times yet to have, I also know that this will be the last Apshawa Beat for this school year, so I do wish to take this opportunity to let you know that the memories for this school year are positive and inspiring.  It isn’t difficult to recount moments in time and experiences in classrooms that will be held close to the heart as reflections of how children grow, learn and make the world their own in the school setting.  I invite you to join me in another year of partnership in your child’s education here at Apshawa School again next fall.  If you and your family are moving on to Macopin, we all wish you the best of luck and the most successful of experiences in the middle school.  Our sixth grade students are ready and we are proud of them and their accomplishments.

There are a lot of great things to look forward to yet this year.  So put your seatbelt on for the ride to the end of June!  Our spring concert will be held on June 11th at 7:30 PM and at 1:30 PM for students.  You may join us at either time if you would like.  A separate flyer was sent home with fifth and sixth graders about it.

Please remember to check the calendar for all of those end of year events!  There are many!  The school calendar is sent home and are also available at www.wmtps.org, Apshawa School .

REMINDER:  You may always check our school calendar and find other pertinent information at www.wmtps.org, by clicking on Apshawa School .  We are working towards less and less paper, putting all letters sent home and forms on the Internet for the 2008-2009 school year.  So, when that lost permission slip or that letter from the school nurse is nowhere to be found, you can always check in there.

RECESS HOTLINE!!  A reminder:  Sneakers (laced or Velcro) are required for full participation in recess.  Students may bring their sneakers to school and change into them, if they wish.  Students without sneakers will be prohibited from the playground equipment and from physical activity.  Thanks to those of you have already supported this district-wide effort!  When planning for the fall, please make sure that sneakers are on your “to buy” list.  P.S.  Save those flip flops for June 26th  or the beach, not school!

Many class trips are planned, and they all sound like terrific opportunities.  Please do remember, no glass containers, no soda, no gum. (The same applies to lunchtime!) But, do remember to send in those signed permission slips in advance of the trip.  Children without signed permission may not attend the trips.

I would like to heartily thank Tom Hackett for being this year’s editor of the Apshawa Beat.  He did a great job and his efforts and creativity were greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

I. A. Wechling

Our school theme this year is opportunity!  Make the most of each and every opportunity you have with your children!  And, if you find a quote that represents the idea of opportunity, please send it in to me.  I would love to read it to the school!
