DELAYED OPENING AND EMERGENCY CLOSING OF SCHOOLS

2009-2010 

The following is the procedure for a 1 1/2 hour delayed opening (P.M. Kinder­gartens are a 45-minute delay) or emergency closing of the West Milford Township Public Schools.  When possible, a decision will be made before 6:00 a.m. as to the opening of schools.  If a 1 1/2 hour delayed opening or a school closing is called please note the following important information: 

1.         A Honeywell Instant Alert message will be sent out to inform parents of school delay/cancellation. 

2.         The district snow phone message at 973-208-2860 can be contacted. 

3.         School cancellation information is also available at www.wmtps.org. 

4.         Radio announcements will be made on WGHT (1500), WSUS (102.3 FM), WNNJ (1360AM/103.7FM), www.wor710.com., and Cablevision News 12 New Jersey. 

5.         A siren will sound at 6:00 a.m. indicating a 1 1/2 hour delayed opening of school is in progress. 

6.         If weather conditions do not improve and a closing of schools is called, steps 1- 4 will be repeated and the sounding of a second siren at 8:00 a.m. will indicate schools will be closed.

EMERGENCY EARLY DISMISSAL OF SCHOOLS 

In the event of an emergency once school is in session, the Superintendent will assess the situation and, if necessary, call an emergency early dismissal of schools by 10:30 a.m.  Grades 1-12 will dismiss according to the Early Dismissal Schedule.  The A.M. Kindergarten will dismiss at the regularly scheduled time.  The P. M. Kindergarten will be cancelled.
