MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS

Denise M. White

Project Checklist

Project Time Line: 1 week

Materials: Internet

MS PowerPoint

Printer

Scan-It (or some other kind of projection equipment)

Computer Rules: Follow all computer room rules previously discussed by your teacher, posted on the wall, and outlined in the student handbook. Two things to keep in mind:

1. There are many of you and only one of me, please refer to your notes, ask your neighbor or raise your hand and be patient!!!

2. If you think you are doing something I wouldn’t approve of, you’re probably right, so follow your conscience and stop it!!

Project Guideline: This two-part lesson will incorporate cooperative and individual learning, research and creativity to become familiar with using multiple software packages, notes pages in MS PowerPoint, and presenting to an audience.

Goals:

1. To work cooperatively together.

(CCCS 3.1.1,3.1.4, 3.1.6,3.1.15, 3.1.16, 3.1.20) (CrCS 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 4.9)

2. To decide which software package to use.

(CrCS 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9)

3. To have students look at each other’s works critically.

(CCCS 3.1.1, 3.4.6, 3.5.2, 3.5.4, 3.5.15) (CrCS 3.2, 4.9)

Activity #1:

I ask them to sit with someone they do not normally sit with. I hand them an Encarta scavenger hunt sheet (ATTACHED) that requires many tasks such as copying text into a word processing document, listening to sound clips, finding facts, watching videos, etc. As they finish and print out, I number their sheets. The first 3 groups that have all the correct answers get to decide if they want an extra credit point or a piece of candy.

Activity #2:

I ask them to sit with someone other than the person that they did the last activity with. I then distribute the partner project requirement sheet (ATTACHED). I give them 10 minutes to mutually agree upon a topic. (Depending upon the maturity level of the class – sometimes I assign topics, but they are more interested when they choose their own).

They then have 4 days to create and prepare for their presentation. On presenting day, they must show me how they met all the requirements (usually in slide sorter view), use notes pages, and take turns speaking and advancing the slide show.

The audience has been handed a peer evaluation sheet (SAMPLE ATTACHED) and are responsible for critiquing their classmates work. They must record one positive comment and one piece of constructive criticism. After everyone has presented, students rank each other’s presentations in order of quality. I tally them up and reward the top ranked group. After proofreading their comments, I cut them up (so the authors name is gone) and give them to the presenters so that they can see what others thought of their work.

Assessments:

I use the first activity as a class work grade, just so that I know who got to practice using 2 programs simultaneously. The second activity counts as a project grade and I use the attached grade sheet.

EXTRA CREDIT:

1. Props when they are presenting (Example: one group did the history of make-up, they used a volunteer from the audience and asked us, based on their presentation, what kind of application we wanted to see.)

2. Presents (Example: One group did tattooing, to check for learning after their presentation, they asked questions, anyone that could answer the question got a temporary tattoo.)

Encarta/Research Projects

You will be working together with one other person.

You will be creating a minimum 5 slide presentation. You must get prior approval on a subject area and doing some type of research.

For example: research on a golden retriever, skateboarding, someone famous, etc.- using Encarta and the Internet. I would be creating a slide show about this subject area.

You must have information and pictures!

Your slide show should include: animation, transitions, graphics, word art, etc. You MUST include the use of auto shapes.

You will be presenting these projects to the class and they will be helping to grade your projects. You will be speaking about your subject, not just showing your slide show. Remember to plan out who is saying what because you will be graded on your presentation too (both members must speak - USE NOTES PAGES!!!!!!).

Have handouts ready for me.

Remember these slide shows must be school appropriate- use mature judgment!!!!
