Arts
Grade Level: 4
Lesson Summary:
In this lesson, students will create and
deliver an autobiographical, multimedia presentation.
Objectives:
¨
Introduce students to the concept of
multimedia communication
¨
Practice public speaking
¨
Introduce the technology that facilitates
a public presentation
Materials:
Index cards
Microsoft PowerPoint
Procedures:
1.
Ask
students if they can think of a way we can “talk” to other people without
using words at all. One good answer
is through sign language. Discuss
other ways to communicate through sounds, gestures, mime, pictures, music, or
video. Explain that
“multimedia” means communicating to people through visual images, sounds,
and written words. And because
multimedia presentations use a variety of media, the information is more clear,
more interesting, and more exciting. Then
tell students that they are going to create an autobiographical multimedia slide
show called “All about Me.” It
will include images, written words, sounds, music, etc.
2.
To
help students get started, show them a sample of your own “All About Me”
presentation. There should be very
little written text on a slide.
3.
Have
students use index cards to create the first draft of their presentations.
4.
Direct
students to put the final draft of their presentations on the computer using
Microsoft PowerPoint.
¨
Open PowerPoint.
¨
Click Blank Presentation.
¨
Choose Title Slide Layout for your first
slide/index card.
¨
Click in “Click to Add Title” text
box, then type ALL ABOUT ME
¨
Click in “Click to Add Subtitle” text
box, then type your name.
¨
Click Insert and select New Slide.
¨

the information for your second slide/index card.
¨

directions.
