Create Your Own Calendar

Lesson Summary:

This lesson goes along with Science Module A – Chapter 3 – Mini-Project.  Students will create calendars for every month of the school year.

 

Objectives:

·        Students will independently use Print Shop to create a monthly calendar for every month of the school year

·        Students will follow written directions (attached)

 

Materials:

Computer with Print Shop and a printer

Attached directions

 

Procedures:

1.      Read the following to the class:

 

As we know, calendars have been an important piece of the past.  Ancient astronomers have long relied upon them.  You will be making a calendar for the rest of the school year with your partner.  You need to make a separate calendar for each month, October through June.  The calendars will only print out in black and white, so please keep that in mind.

 

2.    Assign partners, then hand out the attached directions.

Science Module A – Chapter 3 Mini-Project

Title:  Create Your Own Calendar

 

1.       Select Print Shop from the main menu.

2.     Select CALENDARS, then HELP ME DESIGN.

3.     Click on the next button and choose MONTHLY.

4.     Click next and choose WIDE.

5.     Select your backdrop – remember, they will not be printed in color.

6.     Click on NEXT and choose one of the layouts.

7.     Click on OK once you have selected the layout you like.

8.     Your calendar will be on the screen.  Go up to VIEW and choose 50%.  This will help you see better.

9.     Double click on any place that you have to customize.  (LOGO, name, writing, a picture you want to change, etc.)

10.  You can also double click on any date and add a note.

11.   Type in the notes you want to add for each month.  Some examples, your birthday (and your partner’s), your parents’ birthdays, a test, etc. 

12.  For each month, you must input the following dates:

 

OCTOBER:            Halloween                        MARCH:     St. Patrick's Day

NOVEMBER:         Thanksgiving,                   APRIL:        Passover

                             Veteran’s Day                                     Easter

DECEMBER:          Christmas                        MAY:           Mother’s Day

                             Hanukkah                        JUNE:         Father’s Day

JANUARY:           New Year’s Day                                  Last Day of School

FEBRUARY:          Valentine’s Day

 

13.  When you are ready to print, you will print one copy for each of you.  If you want to color your picture, select the coloring book mode for printing.  They come out pretty cool!  NOTE:  You only have ONE chance for printing – please make sure you are ready to print when you hit that button!

 

Please print each month after you are finished with it.  Keep all of the months together until you are ready to give me November through June.  You will be graded on how well you followed directions, the presentation of each month and if your calendar is complete.
