Social Studies                                                      Grades 5 and 6

Lesson Summary:

Students will locate and use information from several sources to answer questions about a famous person.

World Book

Biographies

Chart for recording information

Procedures:

Teacher/Librarian

1.      Media specialist and classroom teacher will develop a list of subjects, and questions to be answered.

2.     Classroom teacher will assign students to groups and assign subject.

3.     Librarian will develop chart.

4.     Librarian will assist each group with research during library skill lesson.

Students

1.      Students will use computers, encyclopedias, and books to answer questions about their subject.

2.     Students will record the information on the chart and indicate which sources contained the information.

 

Additional Activities

    This lesson can be adapted to fit in to Black History Month, Women's History Month, lessons on famous mathematicians, authors, etc.

            Students could create PowerPoint presentations on their famous people.
