Halloween Candy Survey

Lesson Summary:

The students will survey other students in their class to determine what kind of candy they received most.  They will graph their results using Microsoft Excel.

Objectives:

¨     Research most popular Halloween candy

¨     Graph the data collected

¨     Present the final graph

Materials:

Halloween candy

Paper, pencils, and crayons

Microsoft Excel

Procedures:

1.      Ask students to sort through their Halloween candy and determine which kind of candy they received most.

2.     Students will bring a wrapper of that candy.

3.     In small groups, students will make a graph of the class results.

4.     Small groups will create a graph on Microsoft Excel to display results.

Additional Activities

¨     Students can make graphs of their favorite candy.

¨     Students can survey classes in the school and make a graph of which candy was given most in all of the classes.

¨     Create a pictograph with the candy wrappers on a large sheet of butcher paper.
