Lesson Summary:

Students will create a brochure about hurricanes.  They will describe what a hurricane is, how it forms, include at least 5 facts about hurricanes, and tell how to prepare for a hurricane.

1.      Students will be told that they are creating a brochure about hurricanes.  A brochure is a pamphlet.  They will describe what a hurricane is, how it forms, include at least 5 facts about hurricanes, and include a section about what to do to prepare for a hurricane.  The brochure must be 2-sided, with either horizontal or vertical columns.  They will be given the attached checklist, and be shown the attached sample.  

2.    Students may be assigned to work individually or in groups.  They will be allowed to use the computer for research – either Encarta or the following web sites would be good places to start:
