POST-SECONDARY CHOICES
The counseling staff begins to address the individual needs of each student as early as the first month of the freshmen year. When meeting with new students, counselors talk about future aspirations. When scheduling for courses for each coming academic year, counselors take into consideration not only the stated goals of each student but also his or her potential as shown in prior testing and academic performance. Students are always encouraged to stretch themselves academically and to develop new interests and competencies.
These choices are addressed and explored not only through the counselors with students individually, but also through small group conferences during Junior and Senior years. Parents can make appointments to meet with students and counselors so that they can understand the process of deciding on options.
Counselors visit colleges and trade/technical schools whenever possible to be able to pass on first-hand impressions of programs and climates.
