How about those Giants!? What a fabulous Super Bowl game to watch and you definitely could feel and see the excitement in our hallways at Macopin!

Even though many of the students have been talking about the big games or the unbelievable baseball trades that have been made, they also know that Macopin is a place where one has to get down to academics.

We had our first honors placement test on Wednesday, January 30th and honors testing continued throughout the week. We had so many students staying after to take the exam that I am happy to announce we had to get an extra late bus!  Good luck to all of you who took  the Science Honors test open to both 7th and 8th graders on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 and to our 8th graders who took the Social Studies Honors test on Thursday, February 7th.

Report Cards were distributed in homerooms on Wednesday, February 6, 2008. As always, if you have any questions in regards to your child’s grade, please contact the teacher first or if you need to speak with a guidance counselor, please contact the guidance office directly.

Super Tuesday! Do you mean the primaries or the Super Bowl Victory Parade!? All kidding aside, our social studies classes held their own mock election to determine who would receive the nomination in Ma
Text Box: copin School. Who got the Macopin nominations? The results are as follows:  Barack Obama would get the Macopin “Democratic” nomination and John McCain would get the “Republican” nomination. It will be interesting to see if our students’ youthful intuition is correct!

Now that winter is here, there always seems to be the need to do some creative things in order to escape the winter blues! Macopin has many planned events to keep our students feeling positive about their school.

We will be holding an assembly on “Totally Courageous Basketball”, which just by the title sounds like it should be interesting!

Our high school play is sure to warm some hearts with “Pajama Game”! I am anxiously looking forward to this event because it gives me, as well as many staff members, a chance to see some of our former students shine in the spotlight! Performances begin on Wednesday, February 27th!

If you are looking ahead, there are some exciting things that you may want to put on your calendar so you don’t miss out!  Macopin is holding its 2nd annual Rock-a-thon on March 8th and the PTA is holding its Book Fair in the cafeteria lobby March 25th through April 1st. If you can’t make the Book Fair during the day, the PTA is offering evening shopping on March 27th from 3:00pm– 9:00pm.

Before I bring this letter to a close, I must first reflect on three fine teachers that have recently retired. Mr. Kane, Mrs. Pollard, and Mrs. Post have decided to hang up their erasers! Collectively they have a total of 100 years of teaching service and most
Text Box: of them have been here at Macopin!  These fine educators will not only be missed as excellent teachers, but they will also be missed as people who have always gone out of their way to help make Macopin an exceptional place to send your children!

Many of you have asked how Mr. Kane is doing and I am happy to announce that he is doing well and he appreciates all of your good wishes. I just saw him this past Sunday and he expects to be out of the hospital in two weeks. Please keep him in your thoughts because apparently he is getting all of those good vibes!
Especially during February, if for any reason you don’t feel the “love” with anything that is going on here at Macopin, my door is always open….
