SECTION: INSTRUCTIONAL AND SUPPORT PERSONNEL
GENERAL DUTIES OF TEACHERS
Teachers shall be required to carry out the duties and responsibilities set forth in the New Jersey Statutes Annotated--Title 18A, concerning their role:
1. Keep a school register - N.J.S.A.18A: 25-4.
2. Display and salute the flag at the beginning of school daily N.J.S.A. 18A: 36-3.
3. Maintain authority over pupils - N.J.S.A.18A: 25-2 and N.J.S.A.18A: 37-4.
Teachers shall be required to abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the New Jersey State Board of Education.
1. Any teacher employed in both morning and afternoon sessions shall be entitled to a duty free lunch period in the school.
Teachers shall be required to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the West Milford Board of Education.
1. The contractual obligations of a professional employee shall be considered as sufficiently inclusive to cover a reasonable amount of extra duty necessary to supervise and conduct the supplementary activities which require the services of all and promote the general welfare of the school.
2. Teachers are directly responsible to the building principal and Superintendent of Schools for the performance of their duties.
3. Teachers are required to uphold all rules and regulations issued by the Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools.
4. No employee of the Board of Education shall in any way discriminate against any person because of religion, sex, race, occupation, or place of residence.
5. Criticism before any student or in public of school personnel, policies, or program shall be viewed as unethical conduct.
6. Each teacher shall keep records and make reports as required by the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, or building principal.
7. The welfare of children shall be the primary consideration of all teachers.
8. Teachers shall limit themselves to the securing of first aid or medical care for sick or injured children.
9. Teachers are encouraged to cooperate and actively participate in the affairs of the community.
10. Teachers shall be expected to work toward personal self-improvement and professional growth.
11. Teachers shall carry out an approved marking system or other means of evaluating pupil progress.
12. Teachers shall maintain discipline in accordance with the philosophy, procedures, and policies of the school and the district.
13. Teachers shall make their best efforts to establish and maintain an amicable working relationship with the parent in the interest of the child.
14. Teachers shall give attention to the care and proper use of school property by everyone.
15. Teachers shall give proper attention to heating, ventilating, lighting, and sanitation in the classroom and report conditions that need attention to the principal.
16. Teachers shall be responsible for all monies they have collected that belong to the school or the students.
17. Teachers shall exercise due care for the health, safety, and well being of pupils both in the classroom and outside the classroom.
18. Teachers shall perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Superintendent of Schools or designee in accordance with the policies of the Board of Education.
19. Teachers shall work cooperatively in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
20. Teachers shall initiate and take part in administratively approved pilot programs and/or research.
