RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR SECURITY AND SAFETY OF PUPILS
School building
principal shall have the responsibility to develop programs for the security and
safety of children and to enforce the rules and regulations as set forth.
1. Securing all doors other than the main entrance.
2. Sign-in list for visitors.
3. Posted sign - Visitors Must Report to Office. All pupils must be signed out.
4. Use of visitor's pass.
5. Child released to parent or legal guardian only by written request to
principal's office, with the reason for his/her release stated.
6. Supervision of dismissal - teachers shall be assigned for dismissal and
arrival at areas designated for student entrance and departure.
7. Student patrols, where applicable, may be assigned to assist faculty members
at arrival and dismissal.
8. Any legal document regarding child custody must be respected.
9. Child must get off the bus at assigned stop unless written authorization from
parent or legal guardian is accepted by the principal and the Transportation
Department has been informed.
10. Parents or legal guardians will receive, in writing, from the building
principal the procedures for arrival and dismissal for full and early dismissal
days.
11. All unauthorized persons and persons in vehicles are to be reported and
investigated by building principal or designee.
12. All school personnel are to report any unusual incidents or persons to
building principal or designee.
13. Special programs regarding bus conduct shall be a regular part of the safety
program of the class.
14. The Superintendent of Schools shall implement an identification system
(identification badge) for all employees.
Elementary Schools:
1. Parents or legal guardians wishing to have their child(ren) walk home and not
take the district’s provided transportation must inform the school’s main office
in writing, granting the school permission to allow their child(ren) to walk
home and expressing the understanding that this applies to early dismissal days
as well as regular dismissal days.
2. Students whose parents or legal guardians have provided permission and
requested their child(ren) to walk home will be dismissed only after the buses
have left the school’s grounds.
3. Students who have parental or legal guardian permission to walk home each day
will be supervised by school staff until they are dismissed after bus departure.
4. Parents or legal guardians wishing to pick up their child(ren) must sign them
out in the school’s main office. No student will be released to anyone other
than a parent or legal guardian unless the main office has written notification
from the parent identifying the person who will be picking up the child(ren) and
giving the person permission to pick up the child(ren).
5. Students who have missed the bus and do not have permission to walk home will
remain in the school’s main office until they are picked up by a parent/ legal
guardian or a person designated by the parent/legal guardian. Parental/legal
guardian permission for release of the student under this circumstance may be
obtained through verbal confirmation to a school staff member only. Staff
supervision will be provided until the time of the student’s pick up and the
student’s release to the designated party.
6. Students in grades K-2 will be returned to their assigned school if the
designated adult is not at the bus stop. The parents or legal guardians will be
notified and informed that the child is in the school’s main office where he/she
will remain until picked up. Requests for exceptions to this Regulation must be
put in writing to the principal and the Transportation Department.
Middle School:
1. Parents or legal guardians wishing to have their child(ren) walk home and not
take the district’s provided transportation must inform the school’s main office
in writing, granting the school permission to allow their child(ren) to walk
home and expressing the understanding that this applies to early dismissal days
as well as regular dismissal days.
2. Students whose parents or legal guardians have provided permission and
requested their child(ren) to walk home will be dismissed only after the buses
have left the school’s grounds.
3. Students who have parental or legal guardian permission to walk home each day
will be supervised by school staff until they are dismissed after bus departure.
4. Parents or legal guardians wishing to pick up their child(ren) must sign them
out in the school’s main office. No student will be released to anyone other
than a parent or legal guardian unless the main office has written notification
from the parent or legal guardian identifying the person who will be picking up
the child(ren) and giving the person permission to pick up the child(ren).
5. Students who have missed the bus and do not have permission to walk home will
remain in the schools main office or a supervised designated area until the
parents or legal guardians are notified and are able to make the arrangements
for the student’s pick up. The student may be assigned to the late bus but only
if the parents or legal guardians have been notified and have provided consent.
High School:
1. No students are permitted to leave the premises during school hours without
parental or legal guardian permission and without notifying the Attendance
Office.
2. Students on a work release program must wait for their transportation at the
High School main entrance.
3. Students seeking early dismissal must present a written excuse from the
parent or legal guardian to the Attendance Office before home room.
4. On days of early dismissal, students will be dismissed following the same
procedures as on a full-day dismissal.
5. Dismissal will be under the supervision of staff who are assigned to the
exits designated for student departure.
