SECTION: INSTRUCTION

SCHOOL DAY

The length of the school day and the length of periods of instruction at various levels shall be recommended by the Superintendent and set by the Board, and shall be in keeping within the school facilities and requirements of the State Board of Education.

The particular opening and closing hours for levels and/or schools shall also be subject to board approval. These opening and closing times shall be as uniform as possible at comparable levels throughout the district.

The Superintendent shall recommend for Board approval the length of class periods and the frequency of instruction in individual subjects.

School administrators shall not dismiss school for any part of the school day without the approval of the Superintendent.

As a general rule, pupils who walk to school are requested not to arrive at school until approximately fifteen (l5) minutes prior to the opening of school.

Bus transported pupils are not to arrive at school earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the time set for the beginning classes.

No pupil shall be permitted to leave the school at recess or at any other time before the regular closing hour except

1.when a pass has been issued by the school office at the

request of the parent or guardian.

2. when pursuing an approved schedule of school activities which require the pupil to leave the school. (Example--field trips)

3. abbreviated school schedules.

Pupils shall be instructed to go home, or elsewhere as directed by the parent or guardian, immediately following the close of the school day unless attending a regularly organized program of instruction, recreation, or school activities which follow the dismissal of school.

No deviation from the child's regular routine for leaving school shall be authorized by school personnel without written permission of the parent or guardian.

Pupils shall be required to remain on the school grounds while waiting for the school bus following dismissal.

Parents or others authorized to care for a child shall be notified before a child is sent home or elsewhere at other than the regular time of dismissal.

Teachers shall be expected to be at school at least fifteen minutes prior to the opening of school. With the exception of days when faculty or other school meetings are scheduled and days when additional help is being given to students, teachers may leave fifteen minutes after the pupils.

Any teacher who, because of a specific reason, must leave school early shall secure approval from the building principal.

Any staff member other than a teacher who, because of a specific reason, must leave school early, shall secure approval from his/her immediate supervisor or building principal in the absence of the immediate supervisor.
