DELAYED OPENING AND EMERGENCY CLOSING OF SCHOOLS
The following is the procedure for a 1 and ½ hour delayed opening (P.M. Kindergartens are a 45-minute delay) or emergency closing of the West Milford Township Public Schools. When possible, a decision will be made before 6:00 a.m. as to the opening of schools. If a 1 and ½ hour delayed opening or a school closing is called please note the following important information:
1. PTA/PTO calling lists will be used to contact parents.
2. The district snow phone messages at 697-1700 and 697-1701 can be contacted.
3. School cancellation information also available at www.wmtps.org.
4. Radio announcements will be made on WGHT (1500) and WSUS (102.3 FM), the WOR Website at www.wor710.com, and Cablevision News 12 New Jersey.
5. A siren will sound at 6:00 a.m. indicating a 1 and ½ hour delayed opening of school is in progress.
6. Snow routes will go into effect where applicable.
If weather conditions do not improve and a closing of school is called, steps 1-4 will be repeated and the sounding of a second siren at 8 a.m. will indicate the closing of schools.
As regards out-of-district placements and delayed openings and cancellations of transportation for these students, the Districts Department of Transportation utilizes a snow chain, in which each district driver of a West Milford student attending an out-of-district placement is responsible for phoning each parent to directly inform them of a delay or cancellation. For those students attending out-of-district placements, who are transported by a contracting bus company, the Districts Supervisor of Transportation calls all contractors in the event of a delay or cancellation and the contractors in turn are responsible for phoning each parent of a student they transport.
