Welcome to West Milford
Welcome to the West Milford Township Public Schools located in northern Passaic County. West Milford is one of the largest townships in New Jersey, comprising 80 square miles. Our school system supports a comprehensive educational program designed to promote the intellectual development and achievement of our 3,800 students.
The first month of school has gone by quickly. September 2013 was both positive and eventful for our district and our students. Among the happenings of September was the launch of our new district website. I think that our school community will find it to be user friendly, informative and able to deliver more varied content than our prior site. Stay tuned for additional features that will accompany the site including a tablet and phone application.
September also included the observance of International Peace Day, signified by the Pinwheels for Peace Project at all our schools. Fall athletics are in full flight and our first home football game was heavily attended on September 27th. Six of our schools hosted their back to school nights and our remaining back to school night evenings will occur during the first week of October.
A very special event occurred on September 11th when West Milford High School hosted “Meet the Coaches” night featuring special presentations to students, coaches and students on the topic of Bullying in Sports. West Milford High School also unveiled its new athletic banners and most current sportsmanship award.
As we closed the month of September, the district was able to share some very good news regarding student achievement. SAT scores released for the 2013 school year were the highest over a three year period in West Milford for each tested area of reading, writing and mathematics.
These were some and certainly not all of the highlights from our first month in school. We look forward to a busy month of October with book fairs, Halloween parades, a pep rally and middle school bonfire. Certainly, instruction and student assessment will be in full swing so we ask parents to regularly check the parent portal and virtual backpacks to keep aware of their children’s progress and activities. Please also continue district and school happenings via our Twitter and Facebook.
