Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!
The approaching 2014-2015 school year promises to be a positive and rewarding one for the students of West Milford. The school year will begin on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 and many efforts have been made so that our schools and classrooms are ready for our students on their first day of instruction.
As always, our custodians and maintenance workers have made tremendous efforts during these weeks of summer, cleaning, repairing and improving our buildings and outside grounds. Members of our staff have devoted many summer hours to curriculum related work and others have actively worked directly with students, providing targeted and remedial instruction.
A significant number of personnel changes have or will be taking place before the beginning of the school year. Approximately 75 positions will receive new appointments for 2014-2015 encompassing principals, assistant principals, supervisors, teachers, class assistants, building aides, secretaries, transportation staff and central office employees. I congratulate all of those involved in the hiring process for their diligence and focus on bringing only the best candidates forward to join the outstanding staff we have in place.
Data received and reviewed over the course of our recess also testifies to the hard work and efforts of our staff and students as we focus on improved academics and educational quality. Recently received HSPA scores show increases in all areas with achievement above both the state and district factor group for our district in all areas. Increased student attendance, growth in both ACT and SAT participation and decreased incidents of student misbehavior in the previous school year are some additional examples of the wonderful progress that is occurring here in West Milford.
