Comprehensive Therapeutic Services
Therapeutic services at Highlander Academy are offered by on-site licensed social workers and a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst as well as off-site Case Managers, Guidance Counselors, and Student Assistance Counselors.
In addition to a full academic experience, Highlander Academy provides a comprehensive therapeutic program to ensure that students receive the assistance that they need in order to achieve success. Therapeutic services are provided by licensed, master's level clinicians and are as follows:
School-based group counseling
Individual school-based counseling
Crisis/risk assessments (as needed)
Comprehensive case management with child study team and additional outside providers
At Highlander Academy, all students participate in a reward-based behavior modification system designed to encourage positive social and academic behaviors. Throughout the day, students earn points in four categories based on school-wide expectations. These categories are effort, participation, respect, and conduct. The system can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, as needed, by incorporating their own personal goals that are developed in counseling. These behavior points can be redeemed for exciting incentives, ranging from high-interest tangible rewards to special activities like monthly field trips.
To support our students, the district utilizes the Handle with Care Behavior Management System. This approach prioritizes relationship-building and verbal de-escalation to help students maintain emotional regulation. By focusing on whole-being wellness and establishing expectation before regulation, we ensure a supportive environment rooted in universal physical and psychological safety.
