Department of Business

All Business classes except Accounting for Business are semester courses earning 2.5 credits.

The Business Department offers a variety of elective courses that introduce students to essential business, financial, and career-ready skills. Courses may include entrepreneurship, marketing, accounting, personal finance, and technology applications. Through project-based learning and real-world scenarios, students develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills while gaining an understanding of how businesses operate in a global economy.

Accounting for Business

This is an introductory course that should be taken by all students considering future business careers. This course will help to prepare students to keep accurate and up-to-date records for a business, enabling them to understand accounting concepts that relate to keeping accounting records for a personal business,

Personal Finance

This course gives students a current perspective for making wise financial decisions. Topics such as careers, education, taxes, banking, ethics, being a smart consumer,  identity theft, the pros and cons of credit cards,  insurance (rental, home, auto, health, life), and budgeting,

Introduction to Business

Fashion Merchandising

This course examines the history, evolution, and the business of fashion from the 19th century to the present. From trend research and clothing design to merchandising and promotion, this course will give a complete introduction to the exciting world of fashion. The online simulation will teach students the real-world of business decisions that make or break popular fashion trends. 

SEM

Sports & Entertainment Marketing

This course is designed for students with an interest in the sports and entertainment industry. This course will offer students the opportunity to study the fundamental and practical applications of marketing in the sports and entertainment industry. Students will participate in an online football stadium simulation which teaches the hard business decisions that go into the sports and entertainment events the students enjoy in real life.

Marketing 1

This course is designed to serve as an introduction to the basic principles of marketing, practices, and the application of these practices. Some of the topics covered will include: Economics & Marketing, Consumers & Competition, Marketing Mix, Market Research, and Advertising & Promotion. Each student will develop problem-solving skills, understand the importance of making ethical decisions, learn proper social and business etiquette, analyze possible solutions to specific business problems, and develop an increased understanding of the business world.

ESBM

Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management

This course introduces students about owning or operating a business enterprise. Emphasis is placed on the development of skills needed to plan, organize, and manage a small business. Skills in communication, creativity, research, and problem solving are reinforced as each student participates in group and individual projects. Students will learn about successful entrepreneurs who have helped create the products and services we use everyday.

Hospitality & Tourism

This  course includes various components in the hospitality and tourism industry including hotels & lodging, food & beverage, recreation & attractions, and travel & tourism. Students will receive an overview of the industry, customer relations, trends, and operations through a combination of class discussions and hands-on projects.
