Senior Initiative!
West Milford High School offers seniors the option of a shortened school day to pursue one of the following:
college courses at local colleges or community colleges; the cost is the reduced but is the student’s responsibility
trade or tech courses
unique internship opportunities
This is an excellent opportunity for WMHS students to gain exposure to and experience in the field they are considering after graduation or to begin their next educational journey.

"The Senior Initiative program was one of the best parts of senior year. If school is not your thing and you want to learn something you actually enjoy, the Senior Initiative program is for you. You get to leave school way earlier than everyone else and spend that time learning important skills in a real environment.
For my senior initiative program I volunteered at a therapeutic riding center, a non profit organization that helps people with disabilities learn how to ride horses. While I was there, I learned how to manage the horses and volunteers, as well as how to help with feeding and administering medicine to the horses. I learned everything I hoped to learn and even more. "

Senior Initiative is one of the best things I've ever decided to do in school. It’s an absolutely great opportunity to start out your life early and get a head start on everyone else. It’s a program that allows you to leave school early to go work on your future career, as early as 10:37 to 11:37. It has helped me this year to work on my Electrical and Personal Training jobs and work them during hours I would usually be in school. This program has allowed me to progress heavily for someone at my age and allowed me to get as much training and experience as possible at a young age.
Because of this program I can now get my Electrical license at a very young age compared to the average person who receives it. It has also allowed me to gain multiple personal training certificates and continues helping me gain more. I now have 2 years electrical experience and have acquired a lot of different skills which will definitely help me with my future in it. In Personal Training/Fitness and Life Improvement, I now have 3 years experience.
This program has allowed me to excel in my future career. I’ve been wanting to be an electrician since I was a kid and this opportunity has helped me learn so many different things/skills. It takes a few steps to join the program, but everything required pays off heavily and, in my opinion, has no downsides whatsoever. Without the Senior Initiative Program I would not have been able to accomplish all these things. It has helped me massively in reaching my present success and continues helping with it in the future.
